Fastpack 50

The new Fastpack 40 and 50 rucksacks are comfortable, lightweight and highly water-resistant bags for long day/weekend hiking trips. Whether you count them as relatively small backpacks or very large daysacks, they combine – as you would expect from Lightwave – a sophisticated carrying system with a very low weight.

To ensure a comfortable and stable carry, the Fastpack back system uses two pre-curved, ultralight tubular-aluminium stays (unique to Lightwave) combined with a firm moulded back panel covered in airmesh and a contoured hip-belt with dual adjustment. Both models are designed to fit close to the back for stability and to aid weight transfer through frictional contact. The Fastpack can carry 7-10 kg with ease and up to 12 kg with a reasonable level of comfort.

Tipping the scales at an impressively low 1.10 and 1.15 kg respectively, the Fastpack 40 and 50 nevertheless use sturdy mid-weight 300d and 420d fabrics throughout – the only lightweight nylon you will find is used for the extension sleeve at the top of the main compartment.

Features include a watertight external lid-pocket, ice-axe and walking-pole holders, and generous stretch-mesh stash pockets on each side. The excellent side-compression strap system can also be combined with the ski-holder at the base for carrying skis

Finally, all the seams on the main body and lid are either welded or taped, making the Fastpack virtually waterproof. For technical reasons the seams attaching the back panel cannot be sealed but are largely protected from the weather by the wearer’s own back.
