The new Wildtrek 55w and 60 rucksacks are comfortable, lightweight and highly water-resistant, and ideal for 2-5 day treks.

To ensure a comfortable and stable carry, the Wildtrek uses a pre-curved, ultralight tubular aluminium frame (unique to Lightwave), a firm moulded back panel covered in airmesh, and a contoured hip-belt with an internal stiffener for better load transfer. Both models are designed to fit close to the back for stability and to aid weight transfer through frictional contact. The Wildtrek can carry 12 kg with ease, and up to 15 kg with a reasonable level of comfort. Each model is available in a choice of two back lengths.

At less than 1.5 kg, the Wildtreks are, on average, half a kilogram lighter than other mid-size backpacks with carrying systems of comparable performance. Robustness and durability have not been ignored, however, with mid-weight 300d and 420d fabrics being employed throughout. Lightweight nylon fabrics are used on the extension sleeve at the top of the rucksack and in the base compartment divider.

Features include a watertight external lid pocket, ice-axe and walking-pole holders and generous stretch-mesh stash pockets on each side. The excellent side-compression strap system is threaded under the mesh pockets and can still be used even when the side pockets are full. The Wildtrek also incorporates a separate base compartment which is accessed externally. When not in use, the dividing panel simply sits flat on the bottom of the main rucksack compartment.

All the seams on the main body and lid are either welded or taped which makes the Wildtrek, like the smaller Fastpack, virtually waterproof. For technical reasons the seams attaching the back panel cannot be sealed but are largely protected from the weather by the wearer’s own back.
