Lightwave

Lightwave arctic tents are amongst the strongest and most durable in the world. They are designed for that inhospitable, unpredictable 5th season which lies somewhere beyond winter in the very wildest areas of the planet (and sometimes just north of Fort William). As good as a heavy-duty, all-weather tent can be, the arctic’s tunnel shape is extended by a generous porch/vestibule to offer additional living/cooking/storage space on extended expeditions. Thanks to its rigorous design parameters – extrapolated from painful first-hand experience camping on the Patagonian ice-cap – the t3 arctic manages to achieve the astonishingly low packed weight of 4.00 kg, leaving extra allowance for vital food and fuel.

Specifications

Flysheet

The arctic flysheet is made from nylon 6.6 woven with 50-denier yarn. Nylon 6.6 is much stronger than normal nylon; by way of comparison, it would take an ordinary nylon of 70 denier or more (the thickness used in most groundsheets) to weave a stronger fabric. As with all Lightwave tents, the flysheet itself is coated on both sides with silicone to provide a highly durable, water-resistant barrier.

Groundsheet

The arctic groundsheet is made from nylon 6.6, a fabric we use only in our arctic and mtn 5-season tents. With its outstanding polyurethane coating, this is a seriously strong and waterproof groundsheet – very expensive, but the very best available.

Poles

Our arctic tents are supplied with 9.40mm DAC Featherlite poles. These are wider than normal for increased strength and stiffness.

Pegs

Pegs are very important – without them, no tent could withstand anything more than the slightest breeze. Arctic tents use our Lightning peg – similar in weight to most standard pegs, but substantially stronger, and with a square section to prevent them spinning in the ground.

Guylines

The arctic guylines are 1.75mm pure Dyneema. Phenomenally strong and almost weightless, they absorb no water so don’t freeze up in cold winter conditions. Combined with our mini Lineloks, they are also easy to adjust, even with gloves.
