Lightwave

Born of traverses of the Karakorum and the New Zealand Southern Alps, major treks in the Himalaya and the Andes, camping in Patagonia and the Pyrenees, the Lightwave mtn (short for mountain) is our definition of a mountain trekking tent. A three-pole geodesic tent (lighter and easier to pitch than a full four-pole one) with a large porch area (for easy access and cooking during bad weather), it is built of tough but reasonably light fabrics capable of resisting UV at high altitudes and able to withstand pitching on rocky ground.

In many ways Lightwave’s most specialist tent model, the mtn is probably also our most versatile. It offers, in a single package, an outstanding balance of space, stability and toughness at a very reasonable weight. Thanks to its strong fabrics and its ability to withstand all but heavy snowfall, it can stand as a five-season tent alongside our arctic range.

Specifications

Flysheet

The mtn flysheet is made from nylon 6.6 woven with 50-denier yarn. Nylon 6.6 is much stronger than normal nylon; by way of comparison, it would take an ordinary nylon of 70 denier or more (the thickness used in most groundsheets) to weave a stronger fabric. As with all Lightwave tents, the flysheet is coated on both sides with silicone to provide a highly durable water-resistant barrier.

Groundsheet

The mtn groundsheet is made from nylon 6.6, and is a lighter-weight version of the fabric we use only on our arctic five-season tents. With its outstanding polyurethane coating, this is a very strong and waterproof groundsheet – expensive, but the best available.

Poles

Our mtn tents are supplied with sturdy 8.84mm DAC Featherlite poles.

Guylines

The mtn guylines are 1.75 mm pure Dyneema. Phenomenally strong and almost weightless, they absorb no water so don’t freeze up in cold winter conditions. Combined with our mini Lineloks, they are also easy to adjust, even with gloves.
